Police put Brookhouse under more tough measures to head off knife-crime threat
CREWE'S Brookhouse estate has been put under its second police crackdown in a matter of days with the Cheshire force saying they are going on the "front foot" to tackle criminals in the area.
Officers are continuing to patrol the area around the Brookhouse Estate following on from a weekend of activity which saw a number of incidents involving the threats of violence using knives as well as anti-social behaviour.
A number of people were stopped and some arrested in connection with drug offences as part of the policing sweep which was made possible by the imposition of a "stop and search" Section 60 order.
Police say they are continuing to conduct high visibility patrols in the area and have now placed Brookhouse, along with Davenport Avenue and Claughton Avenue, under a Dispersal Order from 5pm tonight (November 23) until 4pm tomorrow.
The dispersal powers, under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, are to deter anyone acting in an anti-social manner, or likely to, from returning to an area for up to 24 hours.
Officers and PCSOs will be using those powers to prevent any disorder.
Ins. Andy Smith, of Crewe Local Policing Unit, said: "There were a small number of incidents over the weekend involving threats of violence with knives. We want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to deter people from this type of behaviour.
"We have put the order in place as we believe it necessary to demonstrate to the community we are on the front foot in our response to violent crime and to reassure local residents that we are doing everything we can to keep them safe."
