Police confirm patrols in Crewe increased after number of 'unconnected' incidents

Cheshire Police has confirmed it has increased patrols in Crewe to provide 'reassurance' in the community - following a large number of recent incidents.

There have been lots of serious incidents reported in Crewe across the past fortnight.

What are some of the recent incidents that have happened in Crewe?

  • On Friday (October 28), an unknown man attempted to abduct two girls on West Street.
  • On Sunday (October 30), a man in a balaclava threatened to steal a woman's car and assault her.
  • On Wednesday (November 2), a group of youths caused a disturbance on Simply Gym Car Park.
  • On Saturday (November 5), a 76-year-old pensioner was seriously assaulted on Gresty Road.
  • On Tuesday (November 8), armed police were in a stand-off with a man at an address on Bright Street.

Today (November 10), Cheshire Constabulary confirmed to Nub News it was increasing patrols in Crewe.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant, Steve Tandy, said: "Over the past few weeks we have seen a small number of unconnected incidents in the Crewe area and we understand the concern these have caused among the community.

"While officers are investigating these incidents, we have increased patrols in the town to provide reassurance.

"We have also made two arrests in connection with the elderly man who was assaulted.

"I'd like to reassure you that we are working hard to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime, liaising with our partners to establish long-term solutions."

There have been lots of serious incidents reported in Crewe across the past fortnight (Crewe Police).

"We also need your support too - did you know you could get involved in the way we police your communities by coming to our local community cohesion groups?

"It gives you the chance to tell us what we should be focusing on and help us to make your community a better place to live.

"You can also help your community by reporting suspicious activity to us either via 101 or our website. In an emergency always dial 999."

Of these five serious incidents mentioned - two have led to arrests.

Police have made two arrests in connection with the elderly man who was assaulted (Google).

On Monday (November 7), two men were arrested for seriously assaulting the 76-year-old pensioner.

Then on Tuesday (November 8), a 42-year-old man was arrested for making serious threats to his landlord - following a stand-off with armed police.

Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, said: "I know people want to see anti-social behaviour tackled and I mention this in my Police and Crime Plan, which is being refreshed following public feedback.

"Each of Cheshire's communities has its own dedicated police resource under our community policing model, where Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers work with local people to resolve issues in their area.

Cheshire Police is on track to have its highest number of officer since the 1970s - says PCC Joh Dwyer (Ryan Parker).

"In Cheshire our officer numbers are increasing.

"I want people in Crewe to be reassured that we are on track to have the highest number of officers we have ever had since Cheshire's boundaries were set in the 1970s."
