Firefighters called after smoke seen rising out of pavement in Crewe

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a street in Crewe - after smoke was seen rising out of pavement.

The incident on Shelley Drive, Wistaston, happened at 8:29am on Tuesday (November 8).

One fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene - trying to understand what was happening.

Crewe firefighters set up a cordon for safety and contacted Scottish Power (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

The smoke was determined to have been coming from electricity cables.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to smoke coming from an inspection hatch on a pavement.

"The crew used a thermal imaging camera to check the area and set up a cordon for safety.

One fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene. The smoke was determined to have been coming from electricity cables (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

"The incident was then handed to Scottish Power."

Scottish Power dealt with the incident that has now been resolved.
