Plans to convert space above new Crewe shop into apartment

Plans have been put forward to convert storage space above a recently opened West End shop into an apartment.
Applicant, Mr Ani Francis Thottupuram, has submitted a change of use from commercial to residential on the first floor of 100 West Street, above Mary Matha South Indian Store.
Last year, the applicant purchased the old Jeed Store pet shop building at auction for £50,000, opening his new grocery store in November 2024.

Mr Thottupuram, who lives in Leighton, wants to remove a staff room and one storage room on the first floor for a new flat, made up of two bedrooms, a kitchen and shower room.
Mary Matha South Indian Store sells close to 500 South Indian items, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen dishes and seafood.
In November, Mr Thottupuram told Nub News: "This building was in a very bad state when I took it on. In two and a half months I got this shop open and continue to work on upstairs.
"We have had a positive start. I encourage everyone to come and try items from this shop.
"Whether you are from India, Crewe or elsewhere, there is so much quality food to try and enjoy."

The West End shop is open 7am to 9pm (Monday to Saturday) and 7am to 7pm (Sunday).
The last date for submitting comments on this application is Friday 22 August, with a target decision date of Thursday 25 September.
