Plans to convert historic Crewe pub into new restaurant approved

Plans to convert an old Crewe pub and hotel (dating back to the 19th century) into a new restaurant, have been approved.
Last autumn, Westmere Group applied for a change of use of the ground floor at The Brunswick Hotel, Nantwich Road, closed since June 2023.
The applicant proposed a new seating area at the premises, along with a delivery driver waiting area and customer toilet.
They also planned a new restaurant coldroom, freezer, office and serving counter in the three-storey Victorian building.

This January, a Cheshire East case officer said: "The proposed development is considered to be of acceptable design, in keeping with the character of the area, and would not adversely impact upon the amenities of neighbours.
"The proposal would comply with all relevant policies within the Development Plan.
"As such, the application is recommended for approval."
The applicant originally proposed an extract canopy the side elevation on Longford Street, but this was deemed "unacceptable."
Following advice from planning officers, the flue has been relocated to the rear of the building, which is considered "acceptable."
