Plans have been submitted for a new eatery at Crewe town centre's former Topshop unit, vacant since the Covid-19 pandemic.

This winter, applicant Mr. Sags Ulhaq, of Smash On Ltd, submitted proposals for a change of use to a hot food outlet for eat-in and takeaway at 12 Queensway.

The applicant wants to convert the old Brands Direct unit into 'Smash On Trent' and 'Barney's Detroit-Style Pizza' with ground floor and first floor customer seating and toilets.

Kitchen and food preparation areas, cold stores, chillers, staff rooms and customer serving areas will be located on both floors.

Staff toilets will be located on the first floor, with a store room located on the ground floor.

Plans have also been submitted for the installation of an extraction unit, as well as advertisement consent for two fixed illuminated fascia signs at the front of the building.

The new Queensway business would serve a variety of smash burgers and oven-baked foods such as pizza, and wedges, alongside complimentary desserts such as milkshakes and cakes.

A planning statement reads: "The client seeks to obtain permission for the above site where they are looking to operate a food business.

"The site sits within a parade of shops/and food outlets along Queensway and is within a sustainable location.

'Smash On Trent' and 'Barney's Detroit-Style Pizza' intends to open 8am to 11pm, seven days a week (Ryan Parker).

"Previously the site was occupied by a high chain retail store but like other nearby units the premises has been vacant and in desperate need of occupation to revive the town centre.

"As the site is located in a sustainable location staff/customers will utilise public modes of transport where possible as the main road has already restrictions for parking.

"There are public car parks in the vicinity which will be utilised where required.

"For servicing, there is a service area in close vicinity whereby staff can park for stock replenishment.

"The bin store will remain unchanged and be at the rear of the premises within the same service yard.

"The business opening hours intended are 8am to 11pm, seven days a week, and would be within the allocated hours for a typical unit along this parade of shops.

How the ground floor would look (right), if 'Smash On Trent' and 'Barney's Detroit-Style Pizza' plans are approved (CEC Planning).

"The business intends to offer a small breakfast offering during the morning trade hence the early hours of operation are to reflect this."

The last date for submitting comments on this application is Thursday 27 February with a target decision date of Wednesday 26 March.
