Person 'pronounced dead' after being hit by train between Crewe and Stoke

Train services were disrupted and emergency services were called, after a person died from being hit by a train between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent.

British Transport Police say officers were called to the line in Alsager at 6.33pm on Tuesday 24 October, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesperson said: "Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Train services were disrupted and emergency services were called, after a person died from being hit by a train between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent (Nub News).

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

British Transport Police have not released the exact location of where the incident happened at Alsager.

Rail services on the East Midlands Railway between Nottingham and Crewe and the London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Crewe were suspended for several hours last night, with rail replacement buses laid on.

The line was finally cleared and reopened by 11:06 pm that night.

British Transport Police have not released the exact location of where the incident happened at Alsager (British Transport Police).

During the incident, a National Rail spokesman said: "Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations will be closed.

"Trains will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised."
