OPINION: Cheshire East must stop using Leighton as 'dumping ground' for new homes
By Brian Silvester, Putting Crewe First 11th Mar 2026
Leighton parish councillor, Brian Silvester, has hit out at more homes being proposed in the area, claiming it is being used as a "dumping ground" to meet Cheshire East housing targets.
On Tuesday 10 March, Cheshire Fresh Ltd launched a public consultation for 2,100 new properties and 65,500 sq.ft of employment space at Weavers Green, near Leighton Hsopital and Bentley Motors.
These plans are on top of 1,250 homes already secured planning permission for the Leighton parish.
Cllr Silvester said: "A development of 2,100 houses, called Weavers Green, is being proposed in the Leighton Parish, near Crewe.

"As an elected Leighton parish councillor I am, on behalf of my constituents, totally opposed to yet more housing development.
"Leighton parish has already had more than its fair share of new housing.
"Cheshire East must stop using Leighton Parish as a dumping ground to enable them to meet their new housing targets, that have been set by the Government.
"A total of 1250 new homes already have planning permission in Leighton Parish.
"850 will be built south of Leighton Hospital in-between Middlewich Road and Minshull New Road.
"Another 400 homes will be built off Flowers Lane, north east of the hospital.
"This new site is located just across from Leighton Hospital. Access to the site will be via the roundabout on Middlewich Road, just up from the hospital."
