New 10-home residential development to be built on Crewe brownfield site
A new 10-home residential development is set to be built on a Crewe brownfield site, located close to the centre of town.
This November, Cheshire East Council gave the green light to a reserved matters application for five pairs of semi-detached homes on Lewis Street.
Originally approved in 2020, the development will be constructed at the site of a former roofing contractor.
The plot of land, fenced off from the rest of the residential street, is currently overgrown with weeds and has had fire pits created by vandals.
Lewis Street has a mix of terraced homes and apartments, with the brownfield site tucked away at the end.
The new two-storey houses are to be constructed using traditional masonry insulated cavity walls and double glazed windows.
There will also be a tiled pitched roof to the front elevation, with a single ply membrane flat roof over part of the rear.
Satisfied with the development, a Cheshire East planning officer said: "The proposals are not deemed to create any concerns in relation to amenity, ecology, landscape or flood risk, highway safety, subject to updated conditions where necessary.
"The application is therefore recommended for approval."
