A new family-run traditional fish and chip shop has opened in Crewe, promising to cook and serve "everything fresh."

The family got the keys to The Wistaston Fryer this March, carrying out a full renovation of the kitchen.

Karen told Nub News: "We come from a farming background and have lots of friends who grow potatoes for our chips.

"We have had the idea of running our own chip shop for six or seven years and are delighted to finally open The Wistaston Fryer.

"Our chips here are traditional, with everything we serve being cooked fresh to order.

"We have been busy since opening and everyone has been so friendly."

The Wistaston Fryer is located two doors down from Rainbow Cheesecakes, with the business aiming to be a community hub.

The Wistaston Fryer has launched a Christmas Colouring Competition for children (Nub News).

Karen said: "We have started doing a Christmas Colouring Competition for children.

"We have separated this into the age categories of zero to six, seven to 11 and 12 to 16.

"There is a treat for everyone who enters and goody bags for the winner of each group. We want to be community-based and welcome all."

Open five days per week, The Wistaston Fryer plans to serve Sunday lunches in the near future.

Karen added: "We know Crewe well as a lot of family live here. Not many chip shops in the area open on Sundays but we have changed that.

"It has been thoroughly enjoyable opening Wistaston Fryer. We can't wait to meet the people of Crewe.

The Wistaston Fryer is open 4pm until 8:30pm (Wednesday to Saturday) and 12pm to 6pm (Sunday) (Nub News).

"Everyone who works here are really friendly, so do not hesitate to come down and try our food."
