Crewe is set to get a little wackier next year as the Krazy Races Soapbox Derby comes to the town's streets on Sunday 14 July, 2024.

Krazy Races is a free to attend, award winning soapbox derby event, aiming to bring all manner of wild and zany races to towns and cities across the U.K, while raising substantial funds for local charities.

The popular soapbox derby event has welcomed over 150,000 visitors and raised over £100,000 for local charities in 2023 alone, including two local events in Northwich and Stockport.

Krazy Races is now on the lookout for 20 to 40 local teams to take on the challenge.

The event sees a mixture of individual, charity and business teams design, build and then race their handcrafted soap box in front of up to 20,000 locals.

Crewe Krazy Races is the first of its kind to be held in the town. The racing route will contain chicanes, obstacles and more with racers expected to be cheered on by over 15,000 locals.

The organisers are looking to work with local stakeholders and businesses to bring together entertainers, food stalls and more, giving families a day to remember.

Crewe Town Council have teamed up with Sarah Belcher Events Limited, the organisers of Krazy Races, to bring this unique event to the town.

Head of brand and strategic development for Krazy Races, Danny Scoffin, told Nub News:

"As a company, we are thrilled to be bringing Krazy Races to Crewe next year. I live in Crewe, so for me Crewe Krazy Races will be very special.

"I know the massive positive impacts our events make to the communities we visit and I can't express how delighted I am to finally be able to announce that we are bringing our 'KRAZY' event to town.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to Crewe Town Council for welcoming us to town, we are really excited to be working with them.

"We can't wait to start meeting some of Crewe's amazing businesses, charities and teams in the coming weeks. See you all on Sunday 14 July."

Applications for teams to enter open on Thursday 7 December, with event organisers looking for 20-40 teams to enter the race in a knockout style competition with multiple trophies and prizes.

Teams and spectators are encouraged to raise as much money as possible for charity, and later this year, the event will announce its official Crewe Krazy Races headline charity.

A Crewe Town Council spokesperson said: "This is fantastic news for Crewe and promises to be a fun, free to attend day out for everyone.

Two recent Krazy Races events have taken place in nearby Northwich and Stockport (Krazy Races).

"We hope that lots of individuals and organisations from across our community will get involved to design and create their own soapbox creations and we can't wait to see what they come up with."

Information on how to enter can be found on The Krazy Races HERE.
