A new residential development has been approved for a vacant office and current gym site on the edge of Crewe town centre, located behind Phoenix Leisure Park.

Cheshire East Council gave the green light for eight new two-bedroom apartments on Eaton Court, off Eaton Street, on Friday 12 January.

B2 Architecture Ltd will convert the lower ground floor, ground floor and first floor of the building into residential units.

Existing hardstanding will be converted into a new car park, providing 18 dedicated parking bays, with two disabled spaces (Ryan Parker).

Each apartment will have a bedroom with two bed spaces and an additional bedroom with one bed space.

New external openings for windows will be created, along with improved bin and cycle storage.

Existing hardstanding will be converted into a new car park, providing 18 dedicated parking bays, with two disabled spaces.

A Cheshire East case officer said: "The proposals would enable the re-use of an existing building within Crewe town centre and include an external area allowing a provision for parking, cycle and bin storage.

B2 Architecture Ltd will convert the lower ground floor, ground floor and first floor of the Eaton Court building into eight residential units (Ryan Parker).

"The site is located within a sustainable area of Crewe, that is accessible to public transportation links in addition to shops, amenities and services.

"In light of all of the above it is considered eight residential units would be acceptable in principle."

Team Chongi Academy currently operates from the Eaton Court building.

The gym, which has been running self-defence and fitness classes from the site for the past 12 years, will be moving out for the development.

Eaton Court is located on Eaton Street, off Edleston Road, by Chester Bridge (Ryan Parker).

A Crewe Town Council spokesperson said: "The committee welcomes sustainable town centre development of quality living accommodation and recognises the amendments to these plans.

"It is sought that provision of sustainable energy production (solar panels), is added to the proposals."
