New permanent exhibition boards are being installed at Crewe's Lyceum Square (Ly2), the last element to complete the £750,000 plus town centre development.

This June, fencing was place around a section of the redeveloped square, which reopened in August 2023, as part of a small final enhancement.

New exhibition boards, adjacent to Broo Cafe & Coffee, will showcase artwork from local organisations, schools and colleges.

Ly2 was delivered by Cheshire East Council and overseen by Crewe Town Board, with Crewe Town Council also a key partner.

The square has become a mixed-use space to host events, festivals, performances, and activities throughout the year, with the public space boasting a raised events stage with an integrated digital screen.

The new exhibition boards are targeted to be constructed in time for the Crewe Day Festival, a free family-friendly event taking place in the town centre between Thursday 3 July and Sunday 6 July.

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson told Nub News: "The fencing around part of Ly2 is where permanent exhibition boards are being installed.

"This is the last element of the original Ly2 - Lyceum Square Enhancement Scheme, which, when complete, will be able to display artwork from local organisations, schools and colleges.

"It is anticipated the works will be finished before the Crewe Day events on Ly2 from 3 to 6 July."

Cheshire East was allocated funding from the government's Accelerated Towns Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund for an improvement scheme for the Lyceum Square and adjacent areas.

Fencing is currently in place at the back of the old market sheds, visible from Vernon Way, to provide a compound for storage/welfare relating to the installation of the new exhibition boards.
