Plans to demolish an abandoned church hall building in Crewe making way for new West End townhouses, have been given the green light.
In April, applicant, Mr Dodd, of Nantwich, submitted proposals to Cheshire East Council for a brownfield site on Stafford Street.
Mr Dodd proposed to demolish the 1980s building, most recently used as a furniture sales outlet, for five new townhouses.
Cheshire East approved the plans on Wednesday 29 May, with work expected to start later this year.
The two-storey homes will be made up of three bedrooms, with each having separate driveway access for one parking space, directly off Stafford Street.
A Cheshire East planning officer said: 'This is a scheme that adds five dwellings to the housing supply and represents a more efficient use of this brownfield land than that of the existing.
"It would not present any unacceptable visual or residential amenity impacts and the securing of revised plans during the application has mitigated potential deleterious impacts on amenity, as well as added value to this planning permission.
"The development will improve the visual appearance of this somewhat unsightly brownfield site, creating much needed new homes in a sustainable location and facilitating economic growth by way of the supply side.
"This planning application is therefore recommended for approval."
This development comes after planning permission was granted for the erection of five two-storey terraced houses on the site in April 2008.
