A new authentic Indian restaurant and bar with experienced Michelin-trained chefs has opened in Crewe town centre, with Nub News checking out some of their top dishes.

The Royal Saffron, Earle Street, has taken on the former Crown Hotel and most recently Kerala Peppery site opposite Memorial Square, offering a wide variety of high-quality Indian food.

Serving a mix of lamb, chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian curries in spicy, medium and mild spice levels, The Royal Saffron is made up of a team of four, born in India and previously of Leeds.

Offering tandoori platters, Hyderabadi Dum biryanis, a large number of starters (including scallops), rice, breads and sides, the new Crewe restaurant covers all bases.

The Royal Saffron, which opened its doors at the end of December 2025, also offers a large selection of drinks, including beers, spirits, liquers, aperitifs and soft drinks.

Crewe Nub News was invited into The Royal Saffron to try a mix of its finest dishes, all stunningly presented with a level of care and attention to detail, reminiscent of Michelin-star dining.

For starters, we tried, royal scallops, onion palak bhaji, zafrani paneer tikka, hydrabad lamb samosa and tandoori tiger prawns.

We then sampled the Royal tandoori platter, before being served a mix of Punjabi dhaba chicken, royal railway lamb curry and konju mango curry with boiled rice, chilli coriander naan and mango coconut naan.

From the very first course, it was clear The Royal Saffron prides itself on both quality and presentation.

The scallops were a standout starter, beautifully cooked with a delicate balance of spice that complemented rather than overwhelmed the seafood.

The onion palak bhaji was crisp and flavourful, while the Zafrani paneer tikka was rich, aromatic and perfectly charred.

The hyderabad lamb samosa delivered deep, warming flavours, and the tandoori tiger prawns were exceptional, succulent and bursting with spice.

The royal tandoori platter proved to be a real highlight, offering a generous selection of expertly cooked meats, showcasing the kitchen's mastery of the tandoor. Each element was melt-in-the-mouth, well-seasoned and packed with flavour.

For the main courses, the punjabi dhaba chicken was comforting and hearty, while the royal railway lamb curry, nodding to Crewe's proud train history, stood out for its depth and richness, with tender lamb cooked to perfection.

The konju mango curry offered a lighter, vibrant contrast, with the sweetness of mango beautifully balanced by gentle spice.

Overall, The Royal Saffron delivered an impressive dining experience, combining refined flavours with generous portions and attentive service.

Highlights such as the scallops, lamb curry, mango curry, tandoori platter and tandoori tiger prawns made this an invitation well worth accepting and firmly positioned the restaurant as a must-visit for lovers of high-quality Indian cuisine in Crewe.

To celebrate its recent opening, The Royal Saffron is currently offering 20 per cent off collection orders and 15 per cent off dine-ins, quoting their promotional leaflet.
