A new "attractive" three-storey apartment block has been proposed for a derelict building in Crewe town centre, expanding on an already approved project.

This July, Ian Bright Architects, on behalf of Mr Hilton Mundy, submitted plans to Cheshire East Council on behalf of land at 26 to 30 High Street.

The applicant proposes a roof extension and new exterior finishes to create a three storey residential building with parking and a change of use of 26 to 28 High Street to residential.

The applicant proposes a total of 11 apartments for the High Street development, with three on there ground floor and four on the first floor and second floor (Ian Bright Architects).

30 High Street was purchased by the current owner in 2022. In October 2023, they secured planning consent on this unit for a residential development.

This was for a new three-storey apartment block, comprising five residential units.

After receiving the planning approval for the conversion of 30 High Street, and before any work commenced on-site., 26-28 High Street came on to the market and was also purchased.

This application, is for the conversion of both High Street units together. The applicant intends to join the two units internally, creating one building for the apartment block.

Mr Mundy wants to construct a roof extension to add one additional floor with a new roof over the entire building, re-dressing all the elevations to give the appearance of a single stricture.

They also propose constructing a new car parking area, rebuilding a currently derelict rear elevation at full height, with a disabled car parking space and a ramped access included.

A design and access statement reads: "The application presents a scheme that transforms two derelict buildings into one modern and attractive new apartment development .

"The scheme for 30 High Street was approved because it remodelled a dilapidated disused building into a high quality, attractive new residential development, with an area which is desperately in need for regeneration.

"This will bring in new residents breathing new life into this area.

"This proposals extends that concept to another dilapidated existing building on High Street.

"It is hoped this development will act as a precedent for the regeneration of the whole area."

The last date for submitting comments on the application is Wednesday 14 August, with a target decision date of Friday 4 October.
