Moped bursts into flames and catches hedge in Crewe arson attack incident

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to put out a deliberate moped blaze on a Crewe residential street, which also set a hedge alight.

The incident on Claughton Avenue, happened on Wednesday 12 July.

After receiving reports of the incident at 6.40am, one fire engine from Crewe rushed to the scene.

Crewe firefighters discovered a moped had burst into flames on Claughton Avenue, also setting a nearby hedge alight (Ryan Parker).

The firefighters put out the flames with a hose reel.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A fire involving a moped and a hedge was attended by firefighters who used a hose reel to put it out."

Due to the deliberate nature of the fire, Cheshire Police were called to investigate the incident.

A spokesperson added: "At 6:58am on Wednesday 12 July, police were called to reports of a fire on Claughton Avenue.

Cheshire Police officers are currently investigating the cause of the moped fire (Cheshire Police).

"The incident involved a moped which had been set alight on nearby playing fields.

"Firefighters tackled the blaze, with it eventually being extinguished.

"Officers attended to determine the circumstances of how the fire began, with their enquiries currently on-going."
