STAFF at Mid-Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have received praise for the way staff have dealt with infection prevention at Leighton Hospital during the pandemic.

The trust - which runs the Crewe medical complex - was a finalist in the prestigious Nursing Times Awards during a virtual ceremony held this week.

The hospital was short-listed in the infection prevention and control category in the awards, which saw individuals, trusts and health organisations from across the country recognised for innovations and achievement.

The Trust's campaign 'Be Safe Be EquiPPEd' aimed to make the medical sites as safe as possible for staff and patients during the pandemic by supporting appropriate and correct use of PPE.

Sally Mann, Deputy Director of Nursing said: "Our priority has always been to protect the health of our patients and our staff. To achieve this during the Coronavirus pandemic, PPE has been of critical importance and the need for education, support and training of our staff has been essential.

"Through our campaign the Trust made the guidance as clear and as accessible as possible by engaging with and supporting staff in a number of different ways on an issue that we know could have been a potential source of anxiety and uncertainty for many staff.

"We're incredibly proud of the fantastic and important work our staff have carried out during such challenging times."
