A MAN is facing a knife charge after he was caught by police officers on Covid-19 duty at Crewe Station.

British Transport Police officers detained the man after a stop and search while they were carrying out patrols on Crewe and Stoke stations to ensure those travelling were following government coronavirus regulations

The officers say that most people at the stations were showing "good compliance", apart from a repeat offender at Stoke who ended up with a Fixed Penalty Notice.

A British Transport Police Cheshire spokesperson said the man arrested at Crewe was charged today (Saturday) with possession of a bladed instrument and will appear at court at a later date.

The rail force said of Friday night's patrol work: "Excellent to see good compliance with the regulations by most. Unfortunately officers were called to Stoke for a male who has been advised previously for non-essential travel and was asked to leave.

"We issued a Covid FPN for his repeated breaches. We take a sensible approach to the regulations but will move to enforce them when people are deliberately flouting the rules."
