Man arrested for 'immigration offence' after reporting lost passport at Crewe Police Station

A Bangladeshi man has been arrested for an "immigration offence" after reporting his passport as lost at Crewe Police Station.

At around 1:25pm On Thursday 12 October, a 41-year-old man entered the town's police station, Civic Centre.

Following talks between police officers and immigration, the man was found to have been an overstayer in the UK.

The 41-year-old man, originally from Bangladesh, has been handed over to Immigration Enforcement (Wikimedia Commons).

This offence was in breach of section 24 of the Immigration Act 1971.

The man was arrested and taken into police custody. He has now been handed over to Immigration Enforcement.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At 1:25pm on Thursday 12 October, a man attended Crewe Police station and reported he had lost his passport.

"Following liaison with immigration the man was arrested for an immigration offence.

The man was an overstayer in the UK, in breach of section 24 of the immigration act (Cheshire Police).

"The man 41, originally from Bangladesh was an overstayer in the UK in breach of section 24 of the immigration act.

"He was arrested and taken Into police custody before being handed over to the Immigration Enforcement agency."
