Major Crewe road reopens with new roundabout following works
A major Crewe road has reopened with new roundabout following over six weeks of works, as part of the North West Crewe Package scheme.
Minshull New Road reopened on Saturday 9 September, after closing between the junction of Meadow Brook Cemetery and Rolls Avenue on Monday 24 July.
The new roundabout has been installed near to Leighton Brook.
A new road surface has also been put down, as well as new landscaping to the land around Minshull New Road.
Cheshire East Council was responsible for the closure, allowing North West Crewe Package works to continue.
Contractors for the project, Balfour Beatty, worked alongside Cheshire East Highways for the construction of a new roundabout.
A large 'attenuation tank' was installed by the new roundabout, helping to prevent flooding in the Leighton Brook area during heavy rainfall.
In time, the new roundabout will connect Minshull New Road with the A530 Middlewich Road and a realigned Smithy Lane.
A section of Minshull New Road will then be permanently closed to traffic, located around Leighton Academy, creating a safer environment for children.
In other road closure news, Cheshire East has confirmed Flowers Lane will reopen in November.
This is allowing the surface water drainage to be installed and full depth carriageway construction to take place on the roundabout.
This week, the council confirmed to Nub News the North West Crewe Package is still on track to be completed by spring 2024.
