A major American fast-food chain will be officially opening its first ever store in Crewe - following a decision made by Cheshire East Council.

Taco Bell was approved for Unit 4, Phoenix Leisure Park, Dunwoody Way, on Tuesday 2 May - almost three months after a planning application was submitted (February 6).

The approval gives permission for Taco Bell to operate a 24-hour drive-thru restaurant in Crewe - making a number of changes to the existing unit.

Taco Bell will operate a 24-hour drive-thru restaurant in Crewe - making a number of changes to the former Pizza Hut unit (Ryan Parker).

This includes alterations to the exterior of the existing building and surrounding car park.

Taco Bell plans to remove the existing doors, windows, flooring and seating arrangements - remodelling the whole interior.

The American chain will take the unit previously occupied by Pizza Hut - following its forced closure in December 2021.

A Cheshire East planning officer was overall satisfied with Taco Bell's proposals - believing the development to be 'acceptable.'

A statement read: The principle of development is acceptable and there are no adverse visual or residential amenity impacts.

The approved Taco Bell development will fill Crewe's Phoenix Leisure Park for the first time in over five years (Ryan Parker).

"There are no further material considerations in the planning balance attracting sufficient weight to resist a grant of planning permission here.

"The application is thus recommended for approval."

Cheshire East placed a number of conditions on the Taco Bell development - including new electric vehicle infrastructure.

Taco Bell had an offer placed on the Pheonix Leisure Park unit for over 12 months, before the planning application was submitted by Custodian Capital Ltd.

The fast-food chain was founded in 1962, serving a variety of Mexican-inspired food - including tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos.
