Cheshire Police have arrested a man in Crewe on suspicion of attempted burglary, thanks to information from an eagle-eyed member of the public.

At around 3.30am on Thursday 13 February, police were contacted by a concerned local resident, who reported suspicious activity at Morrisons Daily, Gainsborough Road.

The caller reported they had witnessed a man climbing over a rear wall.

The 39-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and theft (Cheshire Police).

Officers were deployed to the store and on arrival spotted a man inside the secure service yard at the back of the building.

The 39-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and theft. He remains in police custody where he is assisting officers with their enquires.

Sergeant Andrew Shields, Of Crewe Response Team, said: "This is a fantastic result which truly shows the value of information from the local community.

"Thanks to information from an eagle-eyed member of the public we've arrested a man on suspicion of theft and attempted burglary.
