Crewe Alexandra's assistant manager has praised star striker Courtney Baker-Richardson - believing there is still more to come after an impressive start.

Lee Bell is delighted with the club's third summer signing who has contributed six goals in just 11 appearances so far.

Baker-Richardson signed from Welsh EFL League Two side, Newport County, back in May.

Baker-Richardson has scored league goals against Harrogate Town, Sutton United, Northampton Town and Crawley Town (Kevin Warburton).

The 26-year-old has hit the ground running - scoring league goals against Harrogate Town, Sutton United, Northampton Town, and Crawley Town

He also netted in a 4-1 Papa John's Trophy group stage defeat away to Bolton Wanderers.

Today (September 22), the Alex assistant manager backed Baker-Richardson to improve further

Lee Bell told Crewe Alexandra's website: "I still think there's more in him.

Crewe Alexandra assistant manager, Lee Bell, believes there is still more to come from Baker-Richardson (Kevin Warburton).

"I think last year (for Newport) he was coming deeper more, getting flick-ons for others to run in behind, but we are encouraging him to focus on getting in goalscoring positions. 

"He doesn't always need to get involved in the build-up, there are others around him who can make things happen.

"He has the instinct to score, he knows where to be. We want him in positions where he can score."

Baker-Richardson is currently averaging more than a goal every two starts.

(Crewe son scoring the winner for Crewe against Crawley Town on Saturday - September 17 (Kevin Warburton).

The number nine showed huge potential under current Chelsea manager, Graham Potter - while at EFL Championship side Swansea City.

During the 2018-19 campaign, Baker-Richardson made 17 appearances - scoring on three occasions.

Bell added: "You have to let Courtney be Courtney. He's a great guy, he works hard and he's getting the rewards.

"He leads by example and works ever so hard, he's encouraging to the younger lads and demands high standards.

"He wants to learn and still has ambitions to play as high as possible." 

Baker-Richardson signed from Welsh EFL League Two side, Newport County, back in May (Kevin Warburton).

Newport Country fan, Mr Mike Parsons said Baker-Richardson was a key player for them too pointing out another side to his game.

He told Nub News: "He is also fantastic at defending set pieces, sorely missed in South Wales."
