A large two-day free 'family-friendly' armed forces event is coming to Crewe's main park this month - including food stalls, military vehicles and a funfair.

Armed Forces Day celebrations are at Queens Park on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June - supported by Cheshire East Council.

The council which received the armed Forces Covenant Silver Award Employer Recognition Scheme last year, has joined forces with Crewe Town Council to organise the weekend.

Armed Forces Day will include food stalls and refreshments, memorabilia, military vehicle and Army displays, recruitment support, and a funfair (Ryan Parker).

Chair of Cheshire East environment and communities committee, Cllr Mick Warren, was excited for the upcoming "family-friendly" Queens Park event.

He said: "I would like to encourage our residents to come along and enjoy this free, family-friendly event.

"Supporting the Armed Forces community is a priority for the council and events such as this go a long way to providing a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families."

The opening times for the Armed Forces Day weekend at Queens Park are 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Armed forces champion, Cllr Ashley Farrall, said: "Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

"From currently serving troops to service families, veterans, cadets, and the wider military community across the borough. 

"There are other events and many ways for residents, communities and local organisations across the borough to get involved."
