Plans for a large housing development in Crewe have been submitted to Cheshire East Council - taking up land around the town's hospital.

Vistry Partnerships submitted its 405-home scheme for Leighton West, Crewe, on Thursday (October 27) - adjacent to Leighton Hospital.

These homes are part of a wider 850-home scheme in Leighton - being delivered by Bloor Homes. 

If given planning approval, work is expected to start before the end of 2023 (SEC Newgate).

When could the development start?

Outline approval for the entire Crewe project was granted in 2020.

Vistry Partnerships aims to deliver the the 405 homes across half of an 117-acre strategic site.

50 per cent of these homes are planned for a housing association or an institutional investor.

The 405-home scheme would be located adjacent to Leighton Hospital (Ryan Parker).

The developer is also open to running a combination of both.

The other 50 per cent will be sold on the open market by Vistry Group - through its Linden Homes Brand.

What else is planned for the Leighton area of Crewe? 

A new local commercial centre, hosting retail and health premises, has been planned in Leighton West.

This development includes a new primary school - planned alongside the Vistry and Bloor housing developments.

Leighton's new 1.8 mile spine road, consisting of three phases - is expected to be completed by March 2024 (Cheshire East Council).

The North West Crewe package scheme will see the construction of seven new roundabouts and 1.8 miles of single carriageway road.

What has the housing developer said?

Managing director of Vistry Partnerships North West. Ian Hilliker, said: "Leighton West is a major development that will create a significant number of new, affordable homes.

Vistry Partnerships aims to deliver the the 405 homes across half of an 117-acre strategic site in Leighton West (Ryan Parker).

"This will be alongside a range of new commercial, retail and educational facilities for the local community.

"The development will also create a significant number of jobs for the local supply chain - boosting economic activity in the area."
