A new pedestrian crossing has been successfully installed on a 40mph road near Crewe - taking approximately two months to complete.

The crossing on Peter Destapleigh Way, just four miles from Crewe - was completed on Thursday (October 27).

In 2021, concerns were raised about the lack of a pedestrian crossing on Peter Destapleigh Way - at the exit from the Stapeley Water Gardens estate, Nantwich.

The 40mph road has an exit largely concealed by hedging - meaning neither drivers or pedestrians have advanced site of each other.

Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan and Nantwich South Cllrs, Peter Groves and Andrew Martin, had been lobbying Cheshire East to act on the road as soon as possible.

Work commenced for the construction of the new Nantwich crossing back in August.

Today (October 28), Dr Mullan confirmed the new pedestrian crossing had been completed on social media.

The Crewe MP said: "It is good to see that the work on the new pedestrian crossing on Peter Destapleigh Way has been completed.

"Myself and ward councillors Andrew Martin and Peter Groves, pushed Cheshire East Council to carry out this work for over a year after residents raised concerns about the safety of children crossing the road.

"I know that more needs to be done regarding road safety and speeding across the area, but this particular road concerned me the most.

"I am therefore very relieved to see the work has finally been done.

"Thank you to Peter and Andrew and to all of the residents who raised this important issue with us."

The new Nantwich crossing is less than a 10-minute drive from Crewe.

Councillors, local residents and the MP hope there are more road safety investments to come within the Crewe and Nantwich area soon.
