J D Wetherspoon confirms interest in bringing pub back to Crewe
J D Wetherspoon has confirmed its interest in returning to Crewe, six years after it closed down in the town.
The pub chain shuttered is Victoria Street premises, The Gaffers Row, in January 2018, making way for demolition of the Royal Arcade site.
Since then, Wetherspoons has not reopened in Crewe, despite having locations in the smaller Cheshire towns of Congleton, Northwich, Sandbach and Winsford.
As of March 2024, Wetherspoons has over 800 locations across the UK and is considering making a comeback to Crewe.
The pub company is not looking at any South Cheshire sites "at present," but is remaining open to the possibility.
Wetherspoon spokesman, Eddie Gershon, told Nub News: "The company would certainly consider opening a pub in Crewe.
"At present we are not looking at any sites."
Currently, the site of the Crewe's Wetherspoons is rubble, with buildings on Victoria Street and Queensway demolished in 2021.
A new bus station and multi-storey car park is set to open this spring, with phase two of the development on hold.
