A Stoke-On-Trent man has been jailed, after being convicted of raping and sexually assaulting a woman as she slept in Crewe.

Mustafa Musa appeared at Chester Crown Court on Thursday 29 February where he was sentenced to eight years in prison.

The 23-year-old of Lionel Grove, Hartshill, had earlier been found guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration following an earlier trial.

During the trial, the court was told that in the early hours of Friday 18 February 2022, Musa had raped a woman in the Crewe area.

The victim told police that she had woken to find Musa sexually assaulting her before going on to rape her, despite her shouting at him, telling him to stop.

The allegations against Musa were reported to Cheshire Police shortly after, and an investigation was launched.

Musa arrested and later charged with rape and sexual assault by penetration.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Grimshaw, who led the investigation, said:

"Firstly, I would like to commend the victim for the courage that she has shown throughout this case.

The victim woke up to find Mustafa Musa sexually assaulting her before going on to rape her, despite her shouting at him, telling him to stop (Cheshire Police).

"Musa lied his way through this investigation and subsequent trial, showing absolutely no remorse for the ordeal he put the victim through.

"But thanks to the victim's bravery and the evidence we gathered, the jury were able to see through his lies and he is now finally being held accountable for his actions."

In addition to his prison sentence, Musa was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and handed an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

DC Grimshaw added: "If anything can be achieved from this case, I hope that it encourages other victims of sexual offences to come forward and report them to us.

"We treat all reports extremely seriously, and any allegation will be thoroughly investigated, with the wishes and needs of the victim as our main priority."

Mustafa Musa was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and handed an indefinite restraining order against the victim (Cheshire Police).
