Cheshire East Council has now removed a controversial Crewe roundabout structure left incomplete since the start of 2022 - much to the delight the town's MP.
The 'solar gazer' artwork structure on Jack Mills Way/Gresty Road roundabout, had been funded by developer Goodman Logistics.
It has been left partially built on for approximately seven months - next to Crewe Commercial Park.
Safety concerns about the Solar Gazer structure had been identified since its installation by Goodman.
Last week, Cheshire East Council confirmed to Nub News it would start safely removing the solar gazer on Tuesday (August 30).
To facilitate the safe removal, a temporary lane closure was put in place on days from 8am to 5pm until it had been taken down.
Yesterday (September 1) the structure had been fully removed - it is currently unclear whether it will ever be put back.
Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, reacted to the news of the structure's removal.
He said: "I am pleased to see that the structure on the Jack Mills Way Roundabout has finally been taken down.
"It was not right that it appeared out of nowhere without any consultation with residents.
"Not only did the state of the roundabout give a bad first impression of Crewe, but also the finished artwork would have no relation to Crewe at all.
"The public should now have their say on an artwork design for the roundabout which will, not only look good, but show off our proud history and heritage as well.
"I have started talking to key local businesses which have already shown and interest so I am hopeful we can come up with a positive way forward."
Last month, Cheshire East Council said a new roundabout sculpture is possible but would need consultation.
A spokesperson told Nub News: "Any new or replacement structure proposed would be subject to a public consultation process."
Further funding for the roundabout sculpture will be sought from developer Goodman Logistics.
