Hundreds flock to classic car meet event at Crewe heritage museum

Hundreds flocked to a monthly classic car meet event in Crewe, with exhibitors and visitors travelling from across Cheshire to attend.

'Off The Rails' took place on Sunday 10 March, from 10am to early afternoon, at Crewe Heritage Centre, off Vernon Way.

The event featured numerous cars from various manufacturers displayed outside for all to see.

Indoors in the exhibition hall, there was a display of Raleigh Chopper bicycles (including a hand-built oversized Chopper).

There were also Maestro and Metro cars from members of The Maestro & Montego Enthusiasts Group.

Visitors could also go inside the North Junction Box signal box to purchase food and drink from the café and items from the gift shop.

They could also inspect rolling stock, including the Advanced Passenger Train (APT) and InterCity 125 High Speed Train (HST).

All profits raised from the North Junction Box signal box gift shop and café will help to support the work of Crewe Heritage Centre as an educational charity to invest back into the museum.

The Crewe museum is located between the Crewe to Chester and West Coast Mainline on the site of the original Crewe Locomotive Works.

It was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, on 24 July 1987, to mark the 150th anniversary of the first train to arrive at Crewe Railway Station in 1837.

The next 'Off The Rails Classic Car Meet' takes place on Sunday 14 April, If displaying a vehicle, please arrive between 8am and 9:30am.

Entry is free for persons exhibiting a classic vehicle and one guest.

Crewe Heritage Centre officially reopens for the 2024 season on Friday 29 March.
