Hotel chain plans to demolish former Crewe pub to extend site by 50 rooms

A UK-based hotel chain has put forward plans to demolish a former Crewe pub and restaurant which closed last year for an additional 50 rooms.
Premier Inn has submitted full planning for its 'Crewe Central' site on Weston Road, proposing to bulldoze The Brocklebank, which closed down in July 2024.
The hotel chain wants to construct a new two-storey extension to its existing hotel on the Brocklebank plot, providing 56 new bedrooms.

Premier Inn proposes to convert six of its current rooms into a food facility for customers, creating a net 50-bedroom extension.
It also plans to add 23 new car parking spaces to the Crewe East site, expanding to a total of 84 spaces.
A cover letter says: "Premier Inn Hotels has identified a demand for the provision of additional budget hotel accommodation in this location, having regard to the proximity of the site to significant highway infrastructure, Crewe Town Centre, Crewe Railway Station, Mornflake Stadium and the nearby Gateway Business Park.
"The proposed annexe will provide 56 bedrooms and be two storeys in height, designed to replicate the appearance of the existing premise, whilst remaining subordinate to the main building,
"The extension is proposed to be sited to the south of existing hotel, within the footprint of the existing restaurant building.

"The existing hotel building will be reconfigured, and six bedrooms will be converted into a restaurant providing hotel guests with food options.
"This will result in a net 50-bedroom extension to the existing hotel.
"The site as existing benefits from good parking levels, with the majority of spaces provided in front of the existing hotel.
"The proposed demolition of the restaurant will naturally reduce demand for spaces, however. the additional hotel rooms will offset this reduction in demand.
"Consequently, the number of parking spaces will be increased from 61 spaces to 84 spaces as part of the proposals."

Premier Inn reopened The Brocklebank for walk-in only in December 2024, serving only breakfasts to the general public.
The last date for submitting comments on Premier Inn's application is Wednesday 10 September, with a target decision date of Wednesday 15 October.
