Homegrown Crewe Alex star joins team-mate's coaching academy in local area

A homegrown Crewe Alexandra FC star has joined his team-mate's coaching academy team, wanting to "give something back" to the local area.

This July, Crewe defender, Connor O'Riordan, joined Conor Thomas Academy to support joint sessions with the Alex midfielder.

The 19-year-old, who is FA qualified, came through Crewe's academy set-up after being spotted at Alex Alex Soccer Centre in Shavington at an early age.

"This is about the future for me, coaching is something I have a massive interest in," said O'Riordan.

Conor Thomas Academy was established by the player this March, offering one-to-one and small group sessions to kids in the local area.

The professional coaching has proved to be a massive hit, with sessions currently taking place on a football pitch behind The Park Coffee Shop, Nantwich Road, Wrenbury.

Sessions are currently running every Tuesday to Friday, from 4pm to 8pm.

O'Riordan told Nub News: "I did my first few hours coaching this July and have really enjoyed it since.

"I have always had a big passion for this and thought I should give it a go myself. The more i do it, the more i will learn.

"I like to coach the kids who watch Crewe Alex matches and I want to give something back to the local area.

"We work one-to-one with players on the technical side of their game, as well as positioning specifics and whatever they feel they can improve on.

"This includes passing skills, finishing, body movements, and a range of stuff which will help them improve as footballers."

All Conor Thomas Academy sessions are still be structured by the Alex midfielder, with O'Riordan assisting with coaching.

Conor Thomas Academy was established by the player this March, offering one-to-one and small group sessions to kids in the local area (Nub News).

Thomas and O'Riordan made a combined 62 appearances for the first-team last season, with the homegrown star hoping to become a key player this year.

O'Riordan said: "I am hoping to be a mainstay in the first team for Crewe this season.

"I want to help the club finish i can as high as they possibly can in the table.

"Scoring my first goal against Stockport was the highlight from last season. 

"I loved to celebrate it at home, in front of my family and a big crowd.

"These coaching sessions are all about getting young footballers out enjoying themselves in the fresh air and improving them as players.

"We have summer camp coming up on Wednesday 23 August. Me and Conror are both excited about this coming out in the coming weeks."
