A former Manchester City councillor of nine years has been put forward as a Crewe and Nantwich Labour MP candidate - "willing to take the fight to the Tories."

On Monday 12 June, Congleton resident, Sarah Russell, confirmed she was in the running to represent Crewe and Nantwich at the next general election.

The former Manchester City Labour councillor is currently a solicitor, as well as being a wife and mother-of-three.

Mrs Russell released a social media statement on her political page - saying she was "grateful" for the opportunity to become a Crewe and Nantwich Labour MP.

Her statement read: "I am grateful to have been long-listed as a potential prospective parliamentary candidate for Crewe & Nantwich.

"I live in Cheshire and have nine years of previous experience as a Manchester City councillor.

"With every day that Kieran Mullan wastes as the MP, there are people who are suffering - going hungry, waiting for NHS treatment, wondering if they will ever have a decent home.

"I am ready and willing to take the fight to the Tories as your Labour parliamentary candidate."
