Former Crewe Alex boss considered for League One manager's job
A former Crewe Alex FC first-team manager is being considered for a League One manager's job, with interviews set to take place this week.
David Artell, 42, is one of several leading candidates to become the Cheltenham Town boss, who are currently bottom of English football's third tier.
Artell, who was sacked by Crewe in April 2022, following the club's confirmed relegation to League Two, was at Cheltenham's 0-3 home defeat to Stevenage on Saturday (September 23).
The Alex's ex-captain and manager was seen taking notes throughout the game in the League One side's main stand.
The Robins parted company with Wade Elliott on September 20, with the club now winless all campaign, taking just one point from the first nine matches.
Following the Stevenage defeat, Cheltenham became the first side in EFL history to fail to score in their opening nine league games of a season.
The club are already five points from safety, with a large turnaround needed to avoid relegation back to League Two this season.
Cheltenham chairman, David Bloxham, is keen to make a new manger appointment ahead of Saturday's (September 30) trip to Lincoln City.
Artell was in charge of Crewe Alexandra from January 2017 to April 2022, achieving a win rate of 36.5 per cent.
In 2020 season, the former centre back won the League Two Manager of the Year award as Crewe achieved automatic promotion to League One.
As a player, Artell represented the likes of Rotherham United, Morecambe and Port Vale, also making seven international appearances for Gibraltar.
