Firefighters respond to deliberate children's bike blaze in Crewe

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service tackled a children's bike blaze on a Crewe playing field - believed to have been started deliberately.

The incident happened on playing fields off Rigby Avenue at 7:04pm on Friday (September 2).

One fire engine from Crewe attended the scene - putting out the blaze.

The fire was located within a public playing field off Rigby Avenue - no injuries were reported (Ryan Parker).

Firefighters discovered a children's bike on fire as well as a nearby tree.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service believe the blaze was started deliberately.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters extinguished a small fire involving a tree and a child's bike on a playing field using a hose reel water jet."

Over the weekend, one fire engine from Crewe responded to an unattended campfire in the town.

At 9:02pm on Saturday (September 3), Crewe firefighters were called to open space on Claughton Avenue.

The campfire was believed to have been lit by a group of youths - it was put out quickly from a water backpack.
