Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service had to respond to a mattress fire outside a Crewe house - believed to have been started deliberately.

The incident was reported on Tuesday evening (July 5) at 11:04pm.

It happened at the back of a Heathfield Avenue property - close to Hightown.

One fire engine from Crewe arrived at the scene.

Firefighters put the fire out and discussed the incident with Cheshire Police officers that attended.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "A mattress had been set on fire, suspected deliberately, at the rear of a Heathfield Avenue property.

"Firefighters put the fire out and police also attended."

Last weekend, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to two deliberate fires in Crewe.

Both incidents took place just over 24 hours apart - happening on Electricity Street and Broad Street.
