Farm on the outskirts of Crewe opens for season - with new attractions
A farm park on the outskirts of Crewe opened its doors yesterday (April 4) - to visitors for the first time this season.
Lakemore Farm Park on Clay Lane, Haslington has been busy preparing to re-open the attraction - alongside collecting donations for the people of Ukraine.
On March 1 and 2 the farm collected donations to the cause in support of The Sunflower Solidarity Appeal - asking for supplies and funds.
A total of 263 boxes and £145 were collected and driven to the Ukraine border.
Most of the donations went directly into Ukraine - some donations went to Warsaw, Poland to help displaced Ukrainian families.
Owners were pleased with the donations and were looking forward to welcoming visitors to the family-owned farm for the first time this year.
"It's great to be back open again," says joint-owner Debbie Lewis - whose father started the business years ago.
Mrs Lewis who runs the farm with her husband David, says new attractions have been added and planned for the popular venue this season.
An outdoor mud kitchen has been made for children to play in and a nature trail is currently being planned for later in the year.
The Clay Lane attraction has added new items to its café menu, located by the lake - as well as the popular Bidlea Dairy range of ice creams.
Mrs Lewis stated: "We're very much about showing and sharing this space with others.
"Lots of our visitors comment how lovely it is to be able to come and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It's a bit of a haven and we love sharing it."
The owner understood there might be concerns from some visitors regarding Covid - which the farm has already addressed.
She said: "There's plenty of space so visitors can social distance if they want to walking round.
"We're very much an outdoor activity so if anyone has concerns about COVID they have room to be in their own space."
Lakemore farm has a centrepiece lake surrounded by kingfishers and other wildlife which the farm park is named after.
There is an also an indoor play barn, mini golf, an outdoor play area and a variety of farm animals for family and friends to enjoy.
The indoor play barn has a cow model where children can try their hand at milking a cow.
Outside there's a variety of animals from donkeys, ponies, cows and sheep as well as llamas.
The farm has Charollais and Texel Sheep, award-winning Limousin cattle - plus Molly the goat who loves to sunbathe.
Mrs Lewis added: "There's something here for everyone."
Two newborn lambs were the star attraction at the opening day - the farm are expecting more to arrive for visitors to enjoy soon.
Crewe and Nantwich MP Dr Kieran Mullan is also expected to visit the farm to congratulate its donation efforts soon.
The entrance cost is £3.95, except for children under 3 years who get in for free. Tickets can be purchased here.
Lakemore Farm is open Monday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
In case you missed it: Two fires in six days - Crewe firefighters put out flames in the same location believed to have been started deliberately.
