Established Crewe businessman notices change in shopping habits at store
A Crewe businessman has noticed the type of flooring people are buying has changed, led by other trends in interiors.
Owner and manager of United Carpets, Nantwich Road, Eddie Davies, is seeing customers changing their shopping habits in his store.
He told Nub News: "Although greys had dominated the market in the past decade, beige and cream are now increasing in popularity as the neutral shade of choice.
"Two years ago 75 per cent of my sales were grey, that has now dropped to 65 per cent."
Another interesting trend, says Eddie, is more people are putting vinyl into bedrooms and living rooms.
Eddie said: "As well as ease of fitting, the cost can be less, and vinyl is very easy to live with, just a wipe and it's clean.
"It's great if you want to reduce pet hairs or allergens in a room."
Whilst there is no end to the finishes produced on vinyl flooring, 1970s style patterns are returning, adding a retro element to people's homes.
Eddie added: "What carpet is made of has its benefits too.
"Polypropylene carpet is considerably out-selling wool as it's so easy to live with, and often bleach cleanable.
"Wool is fabulous but for most families the practicality of polypropylene wins."
