Emergency services rush to West End with handcuffed man on roof in stand-off

Emergency services have rushed to the West End of Crewe - after a handcuffed man escaped from police and climbed to a rooftop.

The incident on Oxford Street began at approximately 11am on Thursday (January 5) with Cheshire Police deploying cars, riot vans and a drone.

A man was arrested by police but escaped and climbed to the rooftop of Emerging Futures homeless hostel.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are in attendance at the scene along with armed police officers.

The incident on Oxford Street began at approximately 12pm on Thursday (January 5) with Cheshire Police deploying cars, riot vans and a drone (Jan Wright).

Parts of the West End have been taped off to the public.

At 3:30pm, Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the incident to Nub News.

A spokesperson said: "At 10.58am today (January 5), officers attended an address in Oxford Street to make a planned arrest.

"The man fled onto the roof and officers are currently at the scene negotiating with him to try and bring the matter to a safe conclusion."

Emerging Futures refused to comment saying it was leaving the incident in the hands of emergency services.
