Cheshire Police officers have arrested a 35-year-old man in Crewe - following a stand-off lasting over 10 hours from a rooftop.

The incident on Oxford Street began at approximately 11am on Thursday (January 5) with Cheshire Police deploying specialist officers, riot vans and a drone.

A 35-year-old man was arrested by police but escaped and climbed to the rooftop of Emerging Futures homeless hostel.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are in attendance at the scene along with armed police officers.

This stand-off between the man and emergency services lasted until approximately 9:30pm.

The man was arrested on suspicion of breach of bail, criminal damage, affray and wasting police time.

On Friday morning (January 6), Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the situation to Nub News.

A spokesperson said: "At around 11am on Thursday (January 5), officers attended an address on Oxford Street, Crewe, to make a planned arrest.

This stand-off between the man and emergency services on Oxford Street lasted until approximately 9:30pm (Crewe Nub News).

"The occupant of the address climbed onto the roof of the address and refused to engage with officer.

"Specialist officers were deployed to the scene, along with support from paramedics and firefighters.

"A 35-year-old man was arrested at around 9.30pm and taken to police custody.

"The man is currently being held on suspicion of breach of bail, criminal damage, affray and wasting police time."

Parts of the West End were taped off to the public for over 10 hours.

A new Crewe pre-school close by was evacuated with children being escorted out by staff and a member of Cheshire Police.
