COUNCILLORS have given the go-ahead for an eco burial site at Shavington.
The burial ground, planned at Forget-Me-Not-Fields next to Old Puseydale, would see the deceased buried in biodegradable urns, with plots marked out via a GIS system.
The change of use application from Simon Clutton includes car parking and "ancillary facilities".
A similar plan was refused three months ago because it was viewed that a reception and maintenance building would blight the green gap between Shavington and Willaston.
But Cheshire East Council's southern planning committee approved the burial project with modifications last week.
The authority is keen to create new cemeteries based on ecological principles.
"It (the burial ground) will complement the other traditional cemeteries in the south of the Borough and offer choice to the residents of Cheshire East," it states.
Planners believe the highways impact of the burial ground will be minimal, and improved access and parking has been included, although among the letters of objection it was noted that Main Road is "already overloaded with traffic" with extensive on-street parking.
One objector questioned whether the site would be too wet for body burials and another said: "This is not the correct location for an ecological burial ground as it has limited access and does not uphold the true values of an environmentally-friendly burial site."
The nearest eco burial sites to the Crewe locality are Swanlow Park Cemetery near Winsford and Keele Cemetery.
Among ongoing planning applications received by Cheshire East Council is a proposal by Crewe Alexandra to emblazon their main stand with the name of long-term sponsor Mornflake.
The cereal firm, located nearby the stadium in Gresty Road, confirmed a three-year naming deal with the club recently. The Alex ground will be now known as the Mornflake Stadium for sponsorship purposes, switching from the Alexandra Stadium, although fans may still refer to it as Gresty Road.
The club has applied to the council to have 'Mornflake Stadium' painted across the stand in black signage 1.5 metres with an illumination provided by back trays fitted with an orange filter.
Several fans have asked for the club badge to be incorporated in the signagge.
One commented: "This is done at Morecambe and Shrewsbury to give examples. It would look better and spread the sign out across the stand."
The application will be decided by planning officers under their delegated powers.
