POLICE are stepping up patrols at Leighton Greenway after a rise in anti-social behaviour.
Crewe and Nantwich MP Kieran Mullan highlighted the issue to the local force after he fielded complaints from residents about broken glass in the play area, littering and groups of young people congregating and drinking late at night.
There has also been reports of violent incidents in the area.
The MP met with local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to discuss the problem and raised the issue with Crewe Divisional Chief Inspector Fez Khan.
The area has now been listed as a high priority area for police, which the MP says should mean more police patrols on weekends and at night, although he has requested further action as increased patrols by response teams will depend on police capacity at the time.
"I would like to thank the PCSOs for their work in tackling this issue and while I am pleased that there should be increased police patrols, I will continue to explore long term solutions with the Chief Inspector," said the Crewe and Nantwich MP.
"Anti-social behaviour can be reported quickly and confidentially via the Cheshire Police website and I would encourage anybody who witnesses ASB to report it - I know people can sometimes get fed up waiting on the phone.
"I would just ask people to persevere because if incidents aren't reported it is hard for me to press for action."
