COVID-19 cases have risen by over 20 per cent in Cheshire East over the last week.

The latest government figures showed that 101 people tested positive for the virus today (Tuesday), while the number of cases has risen by 116 to 674.

The most recently recorded seven-day rolling rate of infection per 100,000 people (on June 24) has risen to 150.7, a sharp rise from the 90.6 at the beginning of the month (June 3) and more nine times the figure after the May 17 easing (15.9 on May 20).

Despite the transmission of the Delta variant, which has been particularly acute in the North West, hospitalisation remains low in the Crewe area, helped by the vaccination roll-out which has seen nearly 64 per cent of the adult population of the borough double vaccinated.

On June 22 there were seven Covid cases at Leighton Hospital, with three patients on ventilation.
