Drink driver arrested after BMW crashes into South Cheshire block of flats

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a BMW hit the corner of a three-storey block of flats in Nantwich, dislodging a number of bricks.

On Sunday 15 October, emergency services received reports of a collision incident involving a BMW 330D on Byron Walk.

At 1:40pm, Cheshire Police, North West Ambulance Service and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene.

The collision caused severe damage to the block of flats and a lamp post.

Firefighters isolated the car's battery, with the driver taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in police custody.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At 1.40pm on Sunday 15 October police were called to reports of a collision on Byron Walk, Nantwich. 

"Officers attended and found that a green BMW 330D had collided with a block of flats.

"There were no reports of any serious injuries, but the driver of the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and remains in police custody (Cheshire Police).

"The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He remains in custody at this time."

A structural engineer has been requested to attend the residential site.

Firefighters have carried out assessments of individual flats within the building.
