A dilapidated road in Crewe is now closed for a four-week resurfacing project, after being delayed earlier in the year.

Stewart Street, between Gainsborough Road and Victoria Avenue, is closed both ways from Monday 27 July.

It is anticipated the major road, running through Crewe West, will reopen at 5pm on Friday 21 August.

Emergency access and resident access will be maintained where possible.

Stewart Street, between Alton Street and Langley Drive, reopened on 6 March, after the first phase of footway resurfacing works were completed.

Phase two, including the resurfacing of the road, and the final footpath works, were postponed until this summer, but are now back continuing again.

Crewe West councillors, Ben Wye and Marilyn Houston, along with Connor Naismith MP, had been pushing Cheshire East Highways to restart the works as soon as possible.

If you have any enquiries relating to the works, contact Cheshire East Highways on 0300 123 5020.

Chipper1507 it's not only Stewart street, victoria Street and Langley Drive that needs doing it's basically the whole road infrastructure needs an overhaul.
Considering there's more traffic on the roads today than every.
What I don't understand is why o why are they paying inspectors to go round measuring pot holes and spraying white paint around them to identify the ones that need doing,
As if the holes aren't bad enough.
Most of the time the traffic erases the paint around the hole within days.
And more to the point I sent an email to Cheshire east highways department about a road subsidence on the junction of Lewis street and ford lane ,
The diameter approximately 20 inches in diameter and approximately 6 to 8 inches deep,
I got a reply from Cheshire east a while later, longer than a week in fact to say we have logged it.
On my recent drive past all they have done is spray paint around it (pathetic) why didn't he take some asphalt and do the job in one hit.
Recently I was in Whitchurch and they do the job properly,
A bitumen paste applied asphalt put in and rolled over.
not just a dollop slung in the hole and a whacker plated.
I know what I'm talking about I served with Crewe Council and served my apprenticeship of four years on the highway department.
Today they gain an NVQ and think it's the bee's knees.
To you that don't know what an NVQ stands for it's,(NOT VERY QUALIFIED).
So please Cheshire east stop wasting tax payers money and let the high ways department do the job properly and stop papering over the cracks.
I'm also most willing to come out of retirement to offer advice on how to do the job properly.👍
