Crewe's Leighton Hospital hit by 'water supply issue'
By Ryan Parker 19th May 2026
Crewe's Leighton Hospital has been hit by a "water supply issue" on Tuesday 19 May, with non-urgent activity and appointments rearranged.
The incident has affected the Middlewich Road site's water for drinking, toilets and hand-washing.
A water tanker is in place and supporting supply to the Emergency Department while Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust (MCHT) teams work to resolve the issue.
Activity is being postponed where clinically appropriate, with the exception of cancer and other clinically urgent cases to help reduce pressure on services.
MCHT says anyone who has an affected appointment will be contacted. If you haven't been contacted, attend as normal.
Patient visitors are asked to limit attendance to essential visits only, with access prioritised for those visiting end-of-life patients.
A spokesperson for Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust told Nub News: "We are currently managing a water supply issue at Leighton Hospital and have put measures in place to maintain safe patient care.
"Non-urgent activity and appointments have been rearranged to help manage the incident, with urgent and cancer care continuing as normal.
"We will share further updates as more information becomes available. "
