Crewe's first self-service launderette facility in years has launched inside a former West End club - after over three years of works and planning.

Crewe Self-Service Launderette, West Street, officially opened its doors this June - operating 12 hours, seven days a week.

The new West End business is located inside the former West Street Band Club, which closed down over five years ago.

"This is a simple self-service launderette. You can literally just walk in, get change from the machine, pop your washing in a machine and press go," said manager, Leanne Holmes.

Crewe Self-Service Launderette has finally opened after over three years of planning, works and setbacks.

The new Crewe business aims to fill a gap in the market - with no self-service laundrette facilities currently in the town.

Leanne told Nub News: "We have a busy 24-hour launderette in Alsager and knew there wasn't a self-service facility in Crewe.

"We could see there was a need for it in this town and have worked on bringing this shop here for three years.

"Our Alsager business, 'Clean N Dry', is very popular and we believed opening in Crewe was a good next step.

"It took us 10 months to get planning permission for this business. We also had issues with installers and COVID-19 kicked in.

"We are just thankful everything is sorted and we're now open."

Crewe Self-Service Launderette has 18 washing machines, with three different sizes, and 10 tumble dryers.

Lots of major interior building works took place to convert the former West Street Band Club into the new launderette.

Leanne said: "It was pretty dirty, smoky and smelly when we first entered this building.

"We had to clear everything and dig the floors out. A large concrete slab was installed to set all the machines into the floor.

"There are three different sizes of washing machines - large, extra large and extra extra large.

"In the biggest machines, a family could fit an entire weeks worth of washing in.

"The variety of different sizes are perfect for local residents, suitable for everyone."
