Crewe's bid for GBR HQ to be supported by town of Crewe in USA
Crewe has now made the final six shortlist to be the home of Great British Railways - now the town of Crewe in the United States in getting involved to back it.
On Tuesday (July 5), it was revealed that Crewe would be up against Birmingham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Doncaster, York and Derby for the home of Great British Railways.
This bid has now been supported by Crewe in Nottoway County, Virginia, United States.
Back in May, Crewe strengthened its ties with its sister town in the United States - following an exchange of gifts.
Former Crewe Town Mayor Diane Yates and her husband, former town councillor Simon Yates, paid a visit to Crewe, Virginia on their U.S holiday trip in April.
This further cemented the relationship that has been growing for several years.
According to the 2010 census, the US town of Crewe has a population of approximately 2,300 people.
Like our town, Crewe's development was tied to the railways. It was founded in 1888.
This town was built by an English surveyor. He named the town after Crewe, Cheshire - following its proud rail history.
Backing from the United States is another boost to Crewe' s GBR bid.
The US town will be boosting Crewe's GBR bid on social media and will be writing a letter to the Secretary of State.
