Crewe's 2022 Remembrance Sunday Service takes place in Memorial Square

Crewe's 2022 Remembrance Sunday Service is set to take place this weekend - with the town's mayor welcoming everyone to attend.

This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday (November 13) - with a Remembrance Service taking place in Memorial Square.

The event commemorates the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars.

It also commemorates later conflicts such as the Falklands War, Gulf War, and other conflicts such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Remembrance Service will begin on Sunday at 10.15am - in association with the Crewe branch of the Royal British Legion.

Its parade will depart at 10.40am from underneath the former Library on Prince Albert Street - leading to Memorial Square.

At 11am a two-minute silence will be observed.

Crewe Town Mayor, Cllr Nan Walton, has welcomed everyone to Crewe's Remembrance Sunday Service.

Cllr Walton told Nub News: "Without the sacrifices made by service people throughout the generations, we may not be here today.

"It is important that we never forget.

"The Remembrance Services in Crewe are a key part of commemorating those sacrifices and are an opportunity for the people of Crewe to show our gratitude and respect."

From 10am until 1pm a number of roads will be closed:

  • Earle Street (Sandon Street to Vernon Way)
  • Prince Albert Street (for its full extent)
  • Crewe Street (for its full extent)
  • Chester Street (Prince Albert Street to Market Street)
  • Market Square (for its full extent)
  • The Civic Car Park underneath the old Library will not be accessible for parking after 10am.

The parade will depart at 10.40am from underneath the former Library on Prince Albert Street - leading to Memorial Square (Peter Robinson).

On Friday (November 11), an Armistice Day Service is being held in Memorial Square at - with a number of primary schools invited.
